If you file a chapter 7 or a chapter 13, and your intent is to discharge a debt that has been cosigned by another individual, that does not protect your cosigner. They will still be held liable for that debt. If, however, you file a chapter 13 case and the debt is a consumer debt, and it is a debt you are paying through your plan, then your co-debtor is protected by the bankruptcy.
