When you file Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 you do not need to make payments on the debt that you intend to discharge in your bankruptcy. However if it’s a debt you want to keep such as a mortgage or a car loan, you do need to keep making payments on those debts while you’re in bankruptcy. You also have to continue to make payments on your normal living expenses. Things like electric and water and sewer and auto insurance. Those types of things you do need to continue to make payments on while you’re in either Chapter 7 or Chapter 13.
