Student loans are not dischargeable in bankruptcy. However, you may be able to get some relief from the student loans when you file bankruptcy. For instance if you’re in default on the student loans and they’re garnishing your wages then a Chapter 13 bankruptcy will stop that wage garnishment and will allow you to make payments through your Chapter 13 plan for a period of 5 years.
