There are debts that are not dischargeable in bankruptcy. The most prominent one and the biggest problem we have right now is student loan debt. Student loan debt is pretty much not dischargeable in Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. Now there are exceptions to that, but they’re very difficult to meet that exception. Other type of debt that is not dischargeable is certain IRS debt and debt that may be owed due to being in an automobile accident where you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. These are the most common types of debts that are not dischargeable in bankruptcy.
